The Morning After the Fourth

Happy Fifth of July, friend.

If your last night looked anything like mine — the yard full, the sky loud, everyone staying a little too late — then this morning has that particular quiet. The good exhaustion. Skin a half-shade warmer than it was on Thursday.

I don't make plans the morning after. I make one exception, and it takes about fifteen minutes.

First · drain

A cold tool, straight from the fridge

Here's the one trick almost nobody does: I keep my gua sha in the fridge, so it's cold when the face is puffy. A drop of oil first — never on dry skin — then downward and outward only, jaw to ear, neck last. Light pressure, three passes a side. Do it because the cold feels good on a sun-tired face, not because a stone rebuilds anything.

Then · soak

Twenty warm minutes for the rest of you

Sun, standing, a little dancing — the body keeps the receipts. A warm magnesium soak is the cheapest recovery there is. I keep the unscented one on hand so it doesn't argue with the lavender later. Phone stays in the other room; that part isn't optional.

Put your sleep back where it belongs

A long weekend scrambles sleep more than the late nights explain. A few drops of true lavender on the pillow — GC/MS-tested, 100% pure, nothing synthetic — is the oldest signal there is. Tonight's the night to set the week back on its rails.
