The fork: infrared or traditional?
Neither is "better." They're two different rituals. A traditional sauna heats the air — a stove, hot stones, 170–195°F, and the soft wave of steam the Finns call löyly. An infrared sauna barely heats the air at all; panels send radiant heat into your body at a gentler 120–150°F, and the sweat still arrives — quietly, from the inside out.
Infrared fits you if the sauna must live indoors: a spare room, a garage corner. Most 2-person cabins plug into a standard outlet, no construction, ready in twenty minutes. Ask any maker for EMF numbers in writing from an independent lab — good brands publish them.
Traditional fits you if what you're buying is the ritual itself: cedar, water on stones, cold evening air. It lives outdoors — usually a barrel — and asks more of you: a level base, a licensed electrician for the 240V circuit, a spot in the yard. It becomes a place, not an appliance.
